6 Rivers Amazing Colors

1. Black colour - Rio Negro

Rio Negro is the largest left tributary of the Amazon and the largest blackwater river in the world. While the name Rio Negro means Black River, its waters are not exactly black; they are similar in color to strong tea. The dark color comes from humic acid from incomplete breakdown of phenol-containing vegetation from sandy clearings. The river's name arises from the fact that it looks black from afar. It has its sources along the watershed between the Orinoco and the Amazon basins, and also connects with the Orinoco by way of the Casiquiare canal. In Colombia, where the sources are located, it is called the Guainía River. Its main affluent is the Vaupés, which disputes with the headwaters of the Guaviare branch of the Orinoco, the drainage of the eastern slope of the Andes of Colombia. The Rio Negro flows into the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon River below ManausBrazil.

2. Red colour - Red River

The Red River is a North American river. Originating at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux and Otter Tail rivers in the United States, it flows northward through the Red River Valley and forms the border between the U.S. states of Minnesota and North Dakota before continuing into Manitoba, Canada. It empties into Lake Winnipeg, whose waters join the Nelson River and ultimately flow into the Hudson Bay, which is part of the Arctic Ocean.

The Red River flows across the flat lakebed of the ancient glacial Lake Agassiz, an enormous glacial lake created at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation from meltwaters of the Laurentide ice sheet. As this continental glacier decayed, its meltwaters formed the lake, and over thousands of years sediments precipitated to the bottom of the lakebed. These lacustrine soils are the parent soils of today's Red River Valley. The river itself is very young; it began only after Lake Agassiz drained, about 9,500 years ago.

3. Rainbow colours - Caño Cristales.

Caño Cristales is a Colombian river located in the Serrania de la Macarena, province of Meta. The river is commonly called The River of Five Colors or even The Most Beautiful River in the World due to the algae produced colors like red, yellow, green and blue at the bottom of the river giving it a unique appearance. This small river does not exceed 100 km in length or 20 m in width.

4. Green colour - Drina.

The Drina is a 346 kilometers long river, which forms most of the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. It is the longest tributary of the Sava River and the longest karst river in the Dinaric Alps which belongs to the Danube river watershed.
Drina is one of the most beautiful rivers in Serbia. In ancient times it was called Drinos and people named it Zelenika or Zelenka (Green in Serbian) after colour of its water.

5. Yellow colour - Hwang-Ho.

The Yellow River or Huang He / Hwang Ho is the second-longest river in China (after the Yangtze River) and the sixth-longest in the world at the estimated length of 5,464 kilometers (3,395 mi). Originating in the Bayan Har Mountains in Qinghai Province in western China, it flows through nine provinces of China and empties into the Bohai Sea.The name "Yellow River" describes the perennial ochre-yellow colour of the muddy water in the lower course of the river. The yellow color comes from loess suspended in the water.

6. Turquose colour - Celeste River.

Celeste River is a river in Tenorio Volcano National Park of Costa Rica. It is notable for its distinctive turquoise coloration, a phenomenon caused by a chemical reaction between sulfur and calcium carbonate.
